SmartBuy.app is an independent buying guide and review site for Canadian shoppers, focused on the gear, tech, and gifts people actually use day-to-day. We research products, compare specs, read through thousands of real-world owner reviews, and write straightforward recommendations — no fluff, no sponsored placements, no padding to hit a word count.

What We Cover

Our editorial focus is the categories where a careful pick makes a real, lasting difference: laptops, headphones, monitors, smart-home gear, kitchen and home appliances, fitness equipment, gaming setups, and gifts for the people you actually care about. We don’t try to cover everything sold online — we go deep on the categories we genuinely use and understand. If a category isn’t on the site, it’s because we don’t yet have something useful to add to it.

How We Test and Choose

Every recommendation starts from a clear use case, not a press release. For each pick we:

• Build a shortlist from technical specs and category-leader history
• Cross-reference long-form owner reviews on Amazon.ca, Reddit, and category-specific forums for failure patterns and quirks that marketing copy hides
• Compare current pricing across Canadian retailers — Amazon.ca, Best Buy Canada, manufacturer direct — so the price you see is realistic, not a US-only sticker
• Discard anything we wouldn’t be comfortable buying for ourselves or recommending to a family member

When a category moves fast — wireless earbuds, robot vacuums, gaming monitors — we revisit our picks every few months. When it’s stable — cast iron cookware, mechanical watches, fragrance — we leave well-tested recommendations in place.

What We Don’t Do

We don’t accept payment to feature, rank, or favorably review a product. We don’t publish sponsored “reviews” disguised as editorial. We don’t recommend products we wouldn’t comfortably buy with our own money, and we’ll tell you when “buy nothing” or “wait for next year’s version” is the right call.
